MARLIN developed a Safe Routes to School Plan which involved the evaluation of 10 schools selected by the Miami-Dade MPO for improvements. On behalf of the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), our Team successfully prepared 10 Safe Routes to School (SRTS) applications, getting more projects approved than any other county in the state! A total of 37 SRTS projects were approved statewide by FDOT for the 2015 application cycle. These projects directly support increased safety for students in grades K-8 who walk and bicycle to school.

Engineering Design, Transportation Planning, and Data Analysis
MARLIN performed field visits, coordination with school administration, and outreach to stakeholder groups to get input on needed safety improvements. We analyzed unsafe walking conditions and developed recommendations and cost estimates for improvements to infrastructure within each school’s attendance boundary. The SRTS projects provide new infrastructure such as sidewalks, signals, signs, and crosswalks that provide better walking and biking access to schools, parks, and community centers.
