Sergio Alfonso, Jr., P.E. - Executive Vice President Sergio Alfonso, Jr. was born in the small town of Puerto Padre, Oriente in Cuba where he lived until the age of fifteen before relocating to Miami, Florida in 1965. Being in a new country with his family was not easy, however, he managed to get a high school education and continue to Miami-Dade Community College while maintaining various full time jobs to assist with the financial responsibilities of his family. In 1972, upon graduation from Miami-Dade Community College, he started his professional career with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District Four where he began as an engineer technician, then moved on to join the Engineer Training Program. Upon completion of the Program, he worked as Traffic Engineer in the Traffic Operations Department responsible for traffic design of numerous roadway projects. After five years with FDOT, he went to work with several major consulting engineering firms in south Florida, where he moved up through the ranks from Design Engineer, Project Manager, Department Manager and Assistant Vice President. In 1989, he returned to FDOT, District 6 as Internal Design Administrator. At this capacity, Mr. Alfonso was responsible of all internal design for the District, which included Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. During his 34 year tenure, he has worked on hundreds of transportation projects throughout south Florida. Among the major projects to his credit are Golden Glades Park & Ride Parking Lot, Sawgrass Express Way Section 5, I-95 HOV lane in Broward County, McArthur Causeway, and SW 137 Avenue from Bird Road to Coral Way in Miami-Dade County. Mr. Alfonso received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Florida International University in 1980 and successfully became a Florida Professional Engineer in 1982. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in the states of North Carolina and California. Mr. Alfonso is a fellow member with American Society of Civil Engineers and Institute of Transportation Engineers. He also holds professional status with the Florida Engineering Society and the National Society of Professional Engineers. In addition, Mr. Alfonso is an FAA licensed private pilot and black belt in Judo. Mr. Alfonso always had a life long desire to own a full service consulting engineering firm and in 1991 his dream was fulfilled.
