Ramon Soria, P.E. - President Ramon Soria was born in Havana, Cuba on October 25, 1960. With the Castro regime, communist practices became intolerable for the family. Therefore, they joined the Cuban immigration movement in the 60’s and settled in Miami, Florida. As a young immigrant, Mr. Soria spent his free time helping his father in the construction field. As he continued to observe and learn about the construction field, he became passionate about the design, structure and the process of building from the ground up. This sparked the desire to become an engineer. Mr. Soria attended the University of Miami where he was able to maintain the highest GPA and fully participate with the National Honor Engineering Society, all the while maintaining a full-time employment in the construction field. All his hard work paid off, because immediately following his graduation, Mr. Soria obtained a job as an Engineer in Training with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District Six. After successfully completing his training, Mr. Soria progressed to the Special Projects Unit. In the Department, he was able to manage highly complex projects for both Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. During his 7 years with the FDOT, he was able to manage many multi-million dollar budgeted projects successfully through their final completion, leading him to receive numerous awards. As time passed, he realized that his professional ambitions were not totally fulfilled, and even though he was extremely happy with his professional accomplishments and contributions as a public servant, there was room for change. Mr. Soria’s desire was to not only design and manage the construction of high profile projects, but he also wanted to become the owner of his own private, multi-disciplined civil engineering consulting firm. At the age of 30, Mr. Soria became the proud founding father of Marlin Engineering, Inc., a difficult, yet fulfilling task if you consider his private life, where he was also a husband and the loving father of two very young children. Fifteen years later, Mr. Soria has seen the fruits of his labor flourish, as he has been able to open offices in Tallahassee and Tampa, Florida, in addition to his headquarters in Miami, Florida. According to the Engineering Record Magazine, Mr. Soria’s company, Marlin Engineering obtained third place in the acquisition of statewide contracts. His company’s slogan, “Your Road To Excellence” captures the way he engages his daily professional life in addition to the goal setting standards, ethics and business integrity that makes him a beacon to our profession. The professional achievements attained by Mr. Soria have also contributed to enhance his value within our engineering society. He is well known for being a man of his word; his personal and professional character encompasses integrity, positive public image, respect and the ability to touch people’s lives through his generous and kind spirit. |
